We are so happy you decided to visit our blog and learn more about our adventures. We are Jamie and Rick, have been married since 2014 and are both Active Duty Air Force. We have a beautiful golden retriever, Lucy, who is almost 4 and she is our entire world! As newly weds, we discovered we LOVED going to Disney and even went on two Disney Cruises. We have spent over 70+ days at Disney over the past 5 years and although we LOVED it we decided that financially we could not keep up this ‘hobby’. But we LOVED to vacation together – so what were we to do?
While on Pinterest one day, and after hearing a few coworkers talk about “camping”, I found this new fad of remodeling Pop-up Campers. I looked through a few classified ads and realized that we could TOTALLY afford to buy a used Pop-up. But I also realized that we literally knew NOTHING about camping, let alone BUYING a camper. So, there I started my months of research and learning the ins-and-outs of the Pop-up world. After about two months of research and education, while looking on the buy-sell-trade pages, I found THE Pop-up. It was in our price range, the perfect size and fantastic condition – it was almost too good to be true. Next came the hardest part, convincing my husband that we NEEDED this camper. After a few nudges he finally agreed to go “look” at the camper.
We were greeted by the sweetest guy and his two children who really gave us the heart that went into this little ol’ Pop-up. He gave us a thorough tutorial, to which at that point I realized that I failed in ALL my research because I forgot to look up how to actually pop it up
(haha). He showed us every detail and even let us pop it up and down a few times. At this point, I still wasn’t sure if my husband was “sold” on it, but he pulled me aside and said “I really like it – let’s do it!” I was doing back flips! We hooked up the Pop-up, now named “Zippy” and drove her home.
I spent 6 weeks working on Zippy, from laying new floor, painting the interior and redoing all the curtains. The before and after photos were incredible! I loved every second on redoing that Pop-up! We promised each other that we would camp in the Pop-up for one year and at that point decide if we enjoyed it and would keep it or hated it and would sell it. Well, we loved camping SO much that we decided to upgrade.
In November 2017, my parents were looking to upgrade their RV and while at the dealership, I asked my mom to take a peak at one of their used campers they had on line. It was BEAUTIFUL and the perfect floor plan for my husband and I. Needless to say, the following weekend she was ours!
We hope you enjoy our adventures and feel free to subscribe to our blog!
Happy Trails,
Jamie and Rick
